comberton village college, cambridgeshire

Comberton Village College is a sixth-form college combining a Leading Edge School, a Training School and a Specialist Sports College.

The commission was for screenprinted glazing to 40 of 46 panels in a new first-floor corridor linking two sections of the school.

The windows illustrate some of the various college activities, and include musical instruments and life-size photographs of pupils participating in sports, music and drama.

The windows were installed in 2003.

Two sets of six corridor windows each illustrate a poem by Northumberland poet, Katrina Porteous.

The first set of windows includes a poem called Wrecked Creaves, and uses images of lobster pots and fishing equipment.

The second set includes the poem The Sea Inside Us, and uses images of the sea and coast.

The images have been acid-etched onto a lightly flashed, coloured glass, and were installed in January 1996.
