This
120m2 east-facing window was commissioned by Newport City
Council as part of a programme of refurbishment of the Victorian
market, and is thought to be the largest stained glass window
in Wales.
The design illustrates the vibrancy of
the marketplace and features a broad scheme of flowers,
leaves and the family. The coloured enamels have been silkscreened
onto 10mm toughened float glass. The window was installed
in July 2003.

These
screens are designed to conceal the lift shaft, and the
geometrical framework echoes the rectangles of the adjacent
architecture.
The floral designs are based on native
British plants and represent pharmaceutics and perfumery,
the central elements in the trade of Boots the Chemist.
To create a sense of depth and movement,
the design is screenprinted on two separate sheets of glass
fixed 50mm apart. Fibre-optic lighting creates a soft, coloured
blush and enlivens the windows after dark. The windows were
installed in 1999.

Two
circular windows were made for a suite of offices and light-industrial
units. One window (left) was for the Conference Room (1.5m2)
and the other for a nearby stairwell (2m2).
The designs were based on collages
inspired by innovative mechanical inventions of the century,
with references to the building’s previous use as
a button factory, and were realised by acid-etching “antique”
flashed glass.
The windows were installed in January
1994. The glassworks were commissioned by Public Arts, Wakefield
for Batley City Challenge and are one element of the Batley
Public Arts programme, which in 1996 won the British Gas
Properties/Arts Council “Working for Cities’
award for ‘Arts in Urban Renewal’.
